
Artist Biography - Sam Vokey

Sam Vokey graduated from Bowdoin College in 1986 where he received a degree in English Literature and Studio Art. In 1990, he was awarded a full scholarship at the prestigious R.H. Ives Gammel Atelier on Newbury Street in Boston. It was at the Gammel Atelier that Sam acquired his sound education in drawing, composition and craftsmanship. Over the past several years, Sam has firmly established himself within the Boston School of Painting, a group of painters who represent a synthesis of academic training and impressionistic techniques. Sam's work is included in the private collections of Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and Dr. Luis Alberto Lacalle, former President of Uruguay. His corporate clients include Boston Private Bank and Trust Company, BankBoston, Nynex, Boston Marriott Hotels, Houghton Mifflin, Merrill Lynch and New England Funds. Sam was a featured artist in the August 1998 issue of Cape Cod Life. His work has also been featured in other publications such as the Newport Polo magazine and on several covers of the Boston Bar Journal. In 1997, Sam was honored with an invitation to be an exhibiting artist at Trees Place in Orleans, MA, where he recently had a one man show. He is also represented at the historical Copley Society of Boston. Other exhibits of Mr. Vokey's work have been one man shows the Museum Maldonado in Uruguay, Concord Art Association and The Middlesex School in Concord. He has also participated in group shows at the Fuller Museum of Brockton and at the St. Botolph Club in Boston.
